How to Fix Red Eye in Paint Shop Pro

For the skinny on how to fix red eye in Paint Shop Pro, read through this helpful guide. It is extremely frustrating when you have the perfect picture, all except for one tiny problem, red eye. This occurs due to the way the camera flash catches in a subject's eyes, giving that person a glowing red eye appearance. Fortunately this photographical snafu is easy to correct.

First, make an extra copy of your image so you have a backup. Then open the image in Paint Shop Pro. Choose the Window > New Window option to open a duplicate window of your image. Zoom one of the images so you see the eyes in as large a frame as possible. Set the other window to a normal view. Arrange your screen to see both windows at the same time.

Next go to the Layers > New Raster Layer option in the program. Choose overlay for the Blend Mode and click OK. Use the eyedropper to select a dark color from the eye's iris. Next select the paintbrush tool and use a small brush to paint over the red area of the eye. Do not go too far outside of this area.

To smooth the edge of the area you just painted over, go to the Image > Blur > Gaussian Blur option and set the radius to 1-2. Once you are satisfied with your results, go to the Layers > Merge All (flatten) option. There is no going back once you choose this option. This is why you made an extra copy of your image in case of mess-ups!
